1. What cookies and browser storage are

A cookie is a small text file that a website places on your device so that it can recognise your browser on later requests. Browser storage (local storage and session storage) works in a similar way but is held by your browser rather than sent with every request. Both can be “strictly necessary” (needed for the site to work or to honour a choice you have made) or “non-essential” (analytics, advertising or tracking).

2. What this website uses

The website uses only strictly necessary items, none of which identify you or track your browsing across other sites:

NameTypePurposeDuration
ja_disclaimerSession storage (browser)Records that you clicked “I agree” on the Bar Council of India disclaimer notice so that it is not shown again during the same browsing session.Until you close the browser
ja_cookie_noticeLocal storage (browser)Records that you have dismissed the cookie notice.12 months
wordpress_*, wp-settings-*CookiesSet only for firm staff who log in to administer the website. Not set for visitors.Session, or up to 14 days if “remember me” is selected

3. What this website does not use

The website does not use analytics, advertising, social-media or cross-site tracking cookies, pixels or fingerprinting, and does not load scripts from advertising networks. The firm does not sell or share browsing data. If the firm introduces anonymised analytics in future, this policy will be updated first and such cookies will be set only with your consent through the cookie notice.

4. Third-party content and links

The website links to external sites. Those sites may set their own cookies when you visit them, under their own policies; the firm does not control them. No third-party content is embedded in the pages of this website.

5. How to control cookies and storage

You can delete or block cookies and site data through your browser settings (for example, Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Third-party cookies / Site data; Safari: Preferences → Privacy; Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security). The website will continue to work if you block storage, but the disclaimer notice will appear on each visit, because your acceptance can no longer be remembered.

6. Legal basis

The items listed above are strictly necessary to operate the website and to record choices you have made, and are used for no other purpose. Any technical data processed in this way is handled in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000, as described in the Privacy Policy. Visitors from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom should note that only strictly necessary storage is used, for which consent is not required under the ePrivacy rules.

7. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated from time to time, for example if the website’s technology changes. The date of the latest revision is shown at the top of the page.
